Captain: Gameweek 19

It is so hard these days to chose the right captain for your Fantasy team! The right Captain can take you right up the points table, especially at this time since almost everyone has more or less the same team. Let us have a look at the probables this week, starting of course with our selection for this game week.

Mesut Ozil (9.9) did not have a great outing against Southampton, but it probably was because he was so tired from ‘assisting’ Santa in distributing gifts on Christmas! Jokes aside, Ozil seems to have finally found the form he was missing all through last season. Maybe it is the added responsibility that comes with the absence of Santi Cazorla or Alexis Sanchez. Either way, Ozil is finally doing what he does best and the next game against Bournemouth makes him the strongest contender for the Captain’s armband.

Kevin De Bruyne (10.8) has had a few dull games recently but he was back with a bang this week against Sunderland where he helped his team not just with a win but also in closing down the gap with Arsenal in the points table. To be fair, De Bruyne had a decent game against Arsenal as well but his efforts were regularly thwarted by the Gunners defenses. Manchester City face Leicester this gameweek and there couldnt be an  opportune time for this fixture as Leicester’s dream run was halted yesterday at Mersyside and it was the first time this season that they have failed to score a single goal in a game. If these are signs of the end of the fairy tale for the foxes, it sure is a great chance for KDB and company to capitalize on and get back in the title race.

Time for an antithesis: our third captain selection this week is Riyadh Mahrez (7.1). Yes, you cannot take chances by ignoring players in form. Mahrez did not get many chances in the game against Liverpool although he did get a few chances and tried to make the most of them (he got a shot on target every time he got into a goal scoring position but that was not good enough). Anyway, we cannot let a single bad performance define the future of a particular player, which is why we have lined Mahrez up as the third choice as Captain this week. Which makes for an interesting game- only time will tell who will come out as the better team.

So that was it from me for 2015. Next hellos in the next year, which I wish to be a joyful and prosperous one for all fellow Fantasy football managers. May your triple captains be a success!
