With the most starkly contrasting pair of Semi-finals results now behind us, we are back again for the Hits & Misses summary for this round. With two of our German picks featuring majorly in the insane 7-1 massacre of the Seleccao, our team picked up a massive 116 points, trumping our previous top score of 114 points (Again!). That’s three rounds in a row that we’v surpassed our previous top score. Not bad eh? Lets get right into the Good, Bad and Ugly for this round.
Jasper Cillesen: 12 Points
The Dutch custodian was in top form again, keeping a clean sheet and pulling off some good saves through a tiring 120mins to earn us 12 points. In fact he even had a Saves rate of over 80% (We didn’t even know they assigned points for that till now). But it still wasn’t enough as they crashed out in penalties. P.S: Special mention for the cheeky dummy he played in front of an onrushing Aguero.
Stefan De Vrij: 13 Points
The defender put in a good shift at the back, with timely tackles and tight marking, to ensure Oranje kept a clean sheet over the full 120mins. With a good amount of Recovered balls and a passing rate of above 80%, De Vrij got us 13 points.
Marcos Rojo: 10 Points
Our cut price left-back had a quiet game, as compared to previous matches. Though he did keep a clean sheet, he ventured forward less often this time. He picked up a total of 10 points for us, courtesy of his success in Recovered balls.
Luiz Gustavo: 7 Points
Though the Seleccao got ruthlessly massacred by the Germans in what was to be a record breaking semi-final result, our Brazilian midfield pick Gustavo did manage to get a borderline decent 7 points for us, courtesy of his success in Recovered balls and a passing rate of above 80%.
Javier Mascherano: 9 Points
The deep lying midfielder had a stellar game against Netherlands, picking out the right passes to link up play when he was on the ball, and making important tackles to break up the Dutch attack, when he was off it. He picked up points for Recovered balls, Blocked shots and a passing rate of above 80 %, to get us a total 9 points.
Toni Kroos: 19 Points
Our decision to get in Kroos in place of Lahm for this round paid off bigtime! The German midfielder had an absolutely brilliant game, picking up 2 goals and an assist to get us a whopping 19 points. Other than his goals and assist, he also picked up points for Balls recovered, Balls delivered and a Passing rate of above 80%. What more can you ask from a midfielder. Top marks to Kroos.
Thomas Mueller: 13 Points
Mueller was back to his scoring ways again, and netted a well taken half volley in the early minutes, to open the flood gates for the 7-1 hammering that was to follow. The German forward was in the thick of things again, linking up well with Ozil and Klose to set up good attacking plays. Other than his goal, he picked up points for an assist, Balls delivered and an Attempts rate of above 80% to get us 13 points.
Wesley Sneijder: 6 Points
Sneijder had quite an average game against Argentina, and managed to pick up just 6 points for us, owing to a few points he picked up for Recovered balls. Other than a few good passes here and there, he was found lacking in attack for most of the match.
Lionel Messi: 6 Points
Like last time, Messi again had a dismal return in terms of points for us. Though he did pick up a few points for Balls delivered and an Attempts rate of above 80% to get us 6 points, it was far from what is expected of the prolific striker.
Dante: 4 Points
The Brazilian defence was in absolute shambles by the first 30 minutes, and majority of the blame was to be put on the abysmal centre back pairing of Dante and David Luiz. He was all over the place, and also picked up a yellow card for a mistimed tackle, to pick up just 4 points for us.
Mat Hummels: 3 Points
Mats picked up just 3 points for us this time, as he was unfortunate to be subbed off in the first half due a possible injury concern.
Arjen Robben: 4 Points
Robben had a fairly decent game, and was denied by Romero on a few occasions. But had nothing to show for in terms of goals or assists, and picked up only 4 points for us.
Hulk: 2 Points
Disappointing! Our Brazilian forward had a terrible first half, and was kept well in check by Hummels and company until the German blitzkrieg commenced, after which it was an all-German show for the rest of the half. Was promptly subbed off at half time for Ramires.
